love’s labour’s lost: welcome to retro-production (12/15/2015)

So this is another tune that I uncovered from the May 2009 acoustic archives…but rather than merely posting it with a cleaner mix, I decided to add some instrumentation.  Doing so “seamlessly” to what was originally a single-track acoustic guitar/voice recording is usually an exercise in futility and frustration.  After a day or two of tinkering around with this, I give up.  Yay?

It’s a song that’s very much a Palouse love story (i.e., eastern Washington and northern Idaho); once I even performed it live on the radio at WSU.

lyrics (based on a true story):
adina had a dream about oprah
where oprah was Romanian and looked like a babushka
oh oprah you have all the money
but you’re not adina
where is the time?
where is time?
I don’t know
lost somewhere in those rolling hills
between chance and fate
adina and I send each other letters
where we write about everything
but I know we’re still hiding behind the poetry
and where is the time?
where is time?
I don’t know
lost somewhere in those rolling hills
between chance and fate
adina, you’re something special…
but now you’re gone
and now I’m gone
